Presidents
Co President - Zelda Doglione
Zelda Doglione is a master’s student in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies with a background in International Relations. She has extensive experience working with NGOs, particularly supporting unaccompanied asylum seeker minors. Before Oxford, Zelda worked at the British Refugee Council and later travelled to Peru where she volunteered with a local NGO. Her primary interests lie in issues of integration, solidarity mechanisms, and digitalisation in displacement contexts.
Co President - Kajetan Chlipalski
Kajetan Chlipalski is a researcher and activist specializing in migration studies, cultural analysis, and political theory. He holds a BA in Cultural Studies and Philosophy, an MA in Cultural Studies, and an MPhil in Philosophy from the University of Warsaw and EHESS in Paris. Currently, he is pursuing an MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford.
At the Osiatyński Archive, he documents legal and political changes in Poland, focusing on transformations within the judicial system. As a co-founder of the Karol Modzelewski Association, he has worked on fostering academic collaboration and organizing free seminars with scholars for public school students. His engagement also extends to Glissando, a contemporary music magazine. He has participated in and organized academic conferences, as well as secured and conducted research grants using qualitative methods.
Secretaries
Secretary - Yeji Kim
Yeji is a Certified Legal Interpreter in the Republic of Korea and an MSc candidate in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies at the University of Oxford. With over a decade of experience working with North Korean refugees, she is an expert in refugee affairs, forced migration, and transnational aggression. Her research focuses on social transformations in North Korea, refugee-led initiatives, and overseas DPRK forced labor.
Her survivor-centered communication has reached 20 million people globally, garnering recognition from BBC, CNN, and Al Jazeera. Her advocacy efforts have contributed to the rescue of over 1,300 refugees. Yeji’s work on global accountability includes active participation in the Human Rights Council.
Secretary - Rosie Caddy
Rosie graduated with a degree in French and German from the University of Cambridge and is currently an MSc candidate on the Migration Studies program. She is particularly interested in the intersections of memory and migration studies, the role of public institutions in shaping national narratives, and cinematic representations of migration. In the past she has lived in Paris and Berlin, where she volunteered in the sewing room at the refugee reception centre. Outside of academia, she love to crochet, mosaic, go outdoor swimming and run.
Rosie is super excited for the upcoming year at OMSS, and especially to host some film events which should be coming up soon!
Treasurers
Treasurer - Emmanuel Orozco Castellanos
Emmanuel was born and raised in Jalisco, Mexico and moved to Ecorse, Michigan at the age of 18. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022 with a major in International Studies and a double minor in translation and Latin American Studies.
He was the recipient of the 2023 University of Michigan MLK Spirit award, and was selected for the 2021-2022 Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. During his time at the University of Michigan, he served as President of the Global Scholars program.
His experience includes volunteering and/or interning at several nonprofits dedicated to human rights work and refugee advocacy, including Freedom House Detroit, InReach, and the international human rights law firm Perseus Strategies He was a delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and the Youth Forum. Emmanuel’s publications include an article on the U.N. Convention against Torture and contributions to the Organization of American States’ first-ever report on the Responsibility to Pro.
Treasurer - Javahir Alakbarli
Javahir Alakbarli, originally from Azerbaijan, holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Baku State University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Edinburgh (Class of 2024). She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Migration Studies at Oxford, aiming to deepen her understanding of global migration patterns and policies.
Her academic interests center on citizenship, nationalism, and xenophobia. For her dissertation at Edinburgh, she conducted a Critical Discourse Analysis of how UK media—specifically the BBC, The Telegraph, and The Guardian—portrayed skilled immigrants between October 2022 and March 2023. At Oxford, Javahir seeks to develop expertise in migration policy and advocacy, with the goal of working in international organisations.
IT Officers
IT Officer - Ahmanni Recchi
Ahmanni serves as one of the OMSS IT Officers and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Migration Studies. She recently graduated from the University of St Andrews, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology. Her academic focus explored the African diasporic experience of migration in Italy, where she grew up. Her primary interests lie in narratives of belonging and diaspora, particularly as expressed through creative mediums such as literature, poetry, and cinema.
Outside of academia, Ahmanni works as a consultant for a U.S.-based climate-tech firm, contributing to community development, climate-focused grant research, and partner engagement. She also spent several months travelling across Thailand, volunteering with an agroforestry and habitat preservation organisation in collaboration with ZSL. During this time, she worked closely with local community members to address the ongoing human-elephant conflict in the region.
IT Officer - Bubé Popo
Bubé completed her undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, from the University of Bath focusing on political theory, philosophy and classical and contemporary sociological theory. Her professional experience includes working as a senior researcher in the UK Home Office, researching and evaluating irregular migration policy. As well as at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on research and analysis related to the UK’s exit from the European Union. Her academic focus is British immigration policy and policy-making.
Outside of academia, Bubé can often be found rowing or at a spin class!
